ANGELA BATES

Angela Bates is Senior Manager of Technical Communities and Advocacy at Discover Financial Services, where she leads culture and engagement strategy for EMEA locations. Previously, she headed IBM Build Labs EMEA, overseeing developer relations and tech start-up programmes for IBM UK.

Angela is a passionate advocate for knowledge-sharing as a way to enhance personal development, improve productivity and promote a healthy corporate culture, and actively supports cross collaboration between teams and the wider ecosystem.

Born into an entrepreneurial family in Nottingham, UK, and having founded two small businesses herself, Angela applies her entrepreneurial mindset to women-in-tech initiatives, employee resource groups, and community partnerships. Her work has reached thousands of technologists through blogs, events, and conference talks.

Beyond her professional endeavours, Angela serves as Honorary Treasurer for the Parish of Chobham with Valley End in Surrey and sings with one of the UK’s largest contemporary choirs.
