TALK SUMMARY
WTF ARE INCLUSIVE COMMUNITIES AND HOW TO MAINTAIN THEM.
We're all here because we enjoy participating in and contributing to communities that are diverse, open, inclusive, and safe. Yet, while communities bring us together, they don’t always create a safe space for open sharing and learning. That’s when collaboratively reflecting on values becomes essential. Creating open and inclusive communities goes beyond abiding by a Code of Conduct or building a diverse line-up—collaborative reflection makes us part of the process and holds us accountable to these values.
In this talk, presented at the Devrellers meetup, Carla and Jade share a real-life example of how they created a unified value system for their internal community by mapping out the personal values of multiple teams. This shared value system not only fostered a sense of belonging internally but also shaped the external voice of their “WTF is Cloud Native” brand.
